Aspire Compass
Hey there,
Welcome to Edition #6 of Aspire Compass!
As you all know, our series on The Psychology of Money continues. Today is Day #6, where we’ll be diving into one of the most profound lessons from the book. Let’s explore an insight that can change the way we think about wealth and financial decisions.
★ Know What Is Enough
Morgan Housel emphasizes a crucial lesson:
Know what is enough.
If you keep chasing money endlessly, there will never come a time when you say, "That’s enough." Because most people don’t truly know how much they need, how long they need to chase it, or even why they are chasing it.
A Simple Exercise to Find Your ‘Enough’
Take a moment to do this exercise:
Think about your entire life.
List everything you want—your dream house, car, luxuries, and experiences.
Write down the price of each item at today’s cost.
Based on this, calculate how much money you would actually need.
When I did this for the first time, I was shocked at how small the number was. I used to think I needed crores to live comfortably. But when I removed unnecessary things, I realized I could be happy with far less.
A Lesson Learned the Hard Way
In 2020, during the COVID lockdown, I had only five months of savings left. If we didn’t find a way to generate income, we would have to sell our house.
And you know what? We were okay with that.
We thought, What does it matter? We could sell the house, pay off the loan, keep the little savings we had, and move to the mountains. We would farm, live in a small village, and still be happy—because we had each other.
The Freedom of Knowing Your ‘Enough’
That moment was liberating because money didn’t control us. Our emotions, ambitions, and external pressures didn’t dictate our happiness. We were truly free.
So, ask yourself: What is your ‘enough’? The answer might set you free.
Let me know your thoughts—hit reply and share!
that’s it
See you in the next edition.
