Aspire Compass

Hey There

Welcome to Edition #9 of Aspire Compass!

Today, we’re diving into Lesson #9 from Morgan Housel’s The Psychology of Money—and it’s a biggie. Let’s talk about peace of mind and why it’s the ultimate investment metric.

Here’s Lesson #9: No investment is worth losing your sleep

Imagine this: You invest your hard-earned money, hoping it’ll grow… but instead, you toss and turn all night, checking prices, sweating over every dip and spike. Sound familiar?

Morgan Housel’s message is crystal clear:

“No investment—absolutely none—is worth losing your restful sleep over.”

Here’s the kicker:

  • Volatility ≠ Wealth: Think crypto, meme coins, or any “get-rich-quick” bets that swing wildly overnight (30% down? 40% up?). The emotional rollercoaster? The anxiety? Not worth it.

  • Happiness > Returns: Ask yourself: What’s the point of money if it robs your peace? Wealth should add joy to your life, not subtract it.

Your Takeaway This Week

Your mental health is priceless. Before jumping into an investment, ask:

1. “Will this keep me up at night?”

2. “Does this align with my long-term goals?”

3. “Am I okay if this money vanishes tomorrow?”

If the answer to #1 is yes, hit pause. Sleep-friendly investments (like index funds, stable assets, or even a savings account) might not be “sexy,” but they’ll let you rest easy.
